  3. Lists of all files in the WSMR-SIMTEL20.Army.Mil MSDOS archives and
  4. utilities to display, search, or print them are contained in directory
  5. PD1:<MSDOS.FILEDOCS> as follows:
  6.  
  7. SIMIBM.ZIP contains SIMIBM.IDX, a comma-delimited listing of all files
  8.      in the MSDOS subdirectories with a brief one line description for
  9.      each file, which is suitable for importing into a database program.
  10.      This file is updated at approximate 7-10 day intervals.
  11.  
  12. SIMLIST.ZIP contains the latest SIMIBM.IDX in text format for those
  13.      would would rather not deal with the comma-delimited index.  The
  14.      format of this file is the same as that produced by the SIMCVT
  15.      programs.
  16.  
  17. These programs can be used to display and search the index:
  18.  
  19. SIMDIR22.ZIP displays the file SIMIBM.IDX.  You can browse through the
  20.      list by moving a highlight bar and by pressing function keys.
  21.      The file is displayed as a two-level hierarchy.  The upper
  22.      (initial) level consists of a list of directories, and the lower
  23.      level consists of a list of files within a single directory.  At
  24.      the lower level, you can move directly to the next or previous
  25.      directory by pressing a single key, and you can search across
  26.      directory for strings of text.  At either level, you can exclude
  27.      all files that were uploaded before a specified date.  It will
  28.      optionally create an output file of selected file names, suitable
  29.      for use with the BSD Unix BATCHFTP or AUTOFTP programs which are
  30.      available in SIMTEL20's PD8:<MISC.UNIX> directory.

  32. SIMTEL35.ARC is a program which will import any SIMTEL20 comma-delimited
  33.      catalog file and convert it to a .DBF and allow viewing, searching,
  34.      printing reports, etc.  The user does not need dBASE and all the
  35.      necessary files will be created as they are needed by the program.
  36.      It will optionally create an output file of selected file names,
  37.      suitable for use with the BSD Unix BATCHFTP or AUTOFTP programs
  38.      which are available in SIMTEL20's PD8:<MISC.UNIX> directory.

  40. AUTFTP11.ZIP takes the output file generated using SIMDIR.EXE, shells
  41.      to NCSA TELNET's FTP.EXE, and FTPs from OAK.Oakland.Edu all the
  42.      SIMTEL20 files you selected while you eat lunch or do more
  43.      exciting things.

  45. SIMAIL50.ZIP reads the output file of the SIMTEL35 or the SIMDIR22
  46.      programs and translates it to multiple output files suitable for
  47.      mailing to LISTSERV or TRICKLE file servers.

  49. WSIM20.ZIP is a Windows 3.x program that can convert SIMIBM.IDX to a
  50.      dBase III .DBF file.  It then uses this file to do searches on
  51.      filename, directory or description.  All searches are substring
  52.      searches and are not case sensitive.

  89. IDX2DAT.C is a program to make AutoFTP/BatchFTP scripts from SIMIBM.IDX.

  91. FILDIF.ARC is a program for comparing a previous copy of PD1:<MSDOS>FILES.IDX
  92.      with a new copy.  It displays files added and deleted since you got an
  93.      older index.  This is useful if you are trying to maintain an archive
  94.      in sync with SIMTEL20.  It can generate output scripts for batch FTP
  95.      processing.

  97. PD1:<MSDOS>FILES.IDX is a comma-delimited file, without descriptions,
  98.      of the MSDOS directory, suitable for importing into PC-File+ or
  99.      DBase III.  This file is updated on a daily basis (sometimes several
  100.      times a day when a lot of new files are uploaded).

  102. It's impossible to make a daily updated list with descriptions with the
  103. quantity of new programs available.  We average about 300 new files per
  104. month.
